Central Bank of Egypt: Paying $7.4 billion in interest and foreign debt installments within 3 months

  • The Central Bank of Egypt revealed that it paid off external debts worth $7.384 billion during the second quarter of 2023, compared to $8.168 billion at the end of the first quarter of the year.

 

  • The Central Bank said in its statistical bulletin that the payments were divided into $2.249 billion in interest paid, in addition to $5.135 billion in installments paid.

 

  • The Central Bank added that the external debt recorded $168.03 billion by the end of the second quarter, compared to $164.521 billion by the end of September 2023.

 

  • The ratio of external debt to GDP recorded about 43% by the end of December 2023, compared to about 42.4% by the end of last September.
