Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, said that there are more than 150 Chinese companies operating within the Chinese Industrial Zone in Egypt, providing more than 10,000 job opportunities, and their activities are diversified across multiple sectors.
This came during Al-Mashat's participation in a high-level discussion session titled "Where Does the Belt and Road Initiative Stand in 2025?" This session, as part of her participation as co-chair of the World Economic Forum meetings, which will be held from June 23-26, 2025, under the theme "Resilient Economic Policies to Keep Up with Global Changes." The forum will be held in Tianjin, China, from June 23-26, 2025, with high-level participation from policymakers, private sector leaders, and entrepreneurs from more than 90 countries.
In her speech, the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation explained that international partnerships are always built on shared and mutual interests, adding that the number of countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative reflects the importance of this initiative.
She pointed out that last year marked the 10th anniversary of the initiative's launch, during which participating countries showcased projects being implemented under the Belt and Road Initiative, which supported sustainable infrastructure, whether in the areas of transportation, renewable energy, or ports. She added that each of these projects reflects the national priorities of the countries, and with regard to Egypt, the projects were consistent with the national agenda and the country's strategic objectives.
Regarding the motivating factors contributing to accelerating the implementation of these projects, Al-Mashat explained that the Belt and Road Initiative has served as a true catalyst in many cases to advance national strategies, noting the recent emergence of a number of national and international initiatives that complement and support the Belt and Road Initiative.
She pointed out that China launched the Global Development Initiative several years ago, and the numerous projects being implemented within that initiative, which run parallel to and support the Belt and Road projects.
