The government reveals the date for finally lifting fuel subsidies

 

  • The Egyptian government revealed today, Wednesday, the date for the final lifting of government subsidies on fuel, noting that it has developed a plan for this.

 

  • The official spokesman for the Egyptian Cabinet, Counselor Mohamed Al-Hamasani, explained the truth about canceling commodity subsidies and converting them into cash, noting that the state has developed a plan to gradually lift subsidies on fuel and petroleum products over a year and a half, i.e. by the end of 2025, and that “diesel” will be outside the plan to cancel the final subsidy.

 

  • Al-Homsi added that cancelling commodity subsidies and converting them into cash is just a proposal presented by a number of experts, noting that this proposal will be presented within the framework of a national dialogue during the coming period.

 

  • The official spokesman for the Cabinet stressed that it cannot be said that cancelling commodity subsidies and converting them into cash has become a state trend unless it is societally agreed upon.

 

  • He stated that the state bears heavy burdens to support electricity, pointing out that the government has developed a gradual plan over 4 years to lift electricity subsidies.

 

  • He said that the state has developed a plan to gradually lift subsidies on fuel and petroleum products over a year and a half, i.e. by the end of 2025.
